KZN Beach Walk – Sun 12 Feb 7am

Hi Beaglers

The next KZN Beagle Walk is back at Umhlanga on Sunday 12th Feb at 7am. The Durban Beachfront was not ideal – there was so much litter and the Police reminded us that its not a dog beach anyway.

It’s really exciting that our Beagle Hunt Season is drawing nearer and the Jhb Beagle Club has already posted its hunt dates starting on 1st April.

We will be sending out our dates for KZN later this month.  Anyone interested in joining the hunts should order a hunting bib from Tanya on  The bibs can be supplied with your Beagle’s name and we will supply the numbers.

We had some really sad news this week.  On Tuesday afternoon Gabby, Sean and Mimi’s beagle, passed away unexpectedly.  Gabby came to our very first hunt last year.  She really was a lovely natured dog and Sean and Mimi are absolutely devastated at losing her so suddenly.  Gabby was a very lively energetic 7 year old and a life-long companion to their Springer Spaniel Ziggy. Sean and Mimi have been dedicated Beagle owners for over 20 years so will be looking out for a Beagle pup from an excellent breeder. We send our most sincere sympathies to Sean and Mimi – we know how these little dogs take up such a big space in our hearts!

Sean reminded me of the importance of getting a Beagle from a reputable breeder which is difficult to find in KZN.   The sudden popularity of the breed and the lack of available pups has put pressure on a breed which historically had many genetic health problems which have subsequently been bred out.

Hawaan Beach, Umhlanga

Meeting Place: At the bottom of the pathway to Hawaan Beach at the water fountain on the grassy area above the beach.

Its approximately a 1.2km walk to the lagoon and then 1.2km back again.

Directions: Take the M4 North, take the Umhlanga Rocks turn off, turn right go across the bridge and down the road towards Umhlanga Rocks along Lighthouse Rd, turn left into Lagoon Drive.  The walkway down to Hawaan Beach is approx 1 km along Lagoon Dr on the right ? between No. 84 (Miramar) and No. 86 (Hawaan). Its the last walkway on the right before you reach the dead end at Breakers Hotel.

We start exactly at 7am as the hounds are eager to get going but we will meet up with any latecomers at the Lagoon.

Get those Beagles fit for the hunting season!

Looking forward to our next walk.
