Hi Beaglers

We had a really good hunt on Sun 24 June.  Peaches, Gizmo, Lucy, Benjamin, Francesca, Ember were there to run
their little hearts out for KZN.  We also got to meet new Beagle Benne and his Dad and we hope to seem them at
future hunts.  It was great to finally meet up with Gauteng Beagles and see how the more experienced hunters
work.  Their howls of enthusiasm (beagles not the owners) at the start-line were infectious and got the whole
pack really hyped up.  From Gauteng were Roti & Poppadom (their Mom and Dad are chefs), Penny & Snoopy,
Harry &  Oscar & Pippen.  Roti & Poppadom also bought along their new little sister Saffron who’s already showing
signs of being a talented hunter.  Penny has been attending hunts for over 3 years and Sunday’s hunt was the first
time she actually ran the lines – so the lovely venue, smaller pack and laid back KZN style definitely suited
Penny.  Tanya de Ville wrote a lovely story with photos and videos on the hunt which you can read on  It was great to meet
the guys from Gauteng and we hope they will join us for more hunts in the future.  They are really devoted
Beagle people and very committed and enthusiastic hunters.

Our next Beagle Beach Walk will be this Sun 8 Jul at 8am.  We meet at the waterfountain on the grass above
the beach. Hawaan Beach is the last beach path from Lagoon Drive – between Bronze Beach & Breakers.
We start promptly at 8am and walk northwards towards the lagoon where the dogs cool off before
walking back.  The walk usually takes about 60 to 70 mins depending on how long we spend at the
lagoon.  Its really a great opportunity for you beagles to socialise as a pack and to learn to walk off
the lead in a safe environment.

Our next hunt will start from Forest House next Sun 15 Jul at 8am.  Directions to Hillhouse attached –
Forest House is a new brick house on the road to Hillhouse on the right hand side.  Its a 70min
drive from Durban.  Bruce’s delicious bacon & egg rolls will be served after the hunt, so if you
are staying for breakfast, please RSVP.  Hillhouse have lovely dog friendly accommodation available
for the weekend, so if you would like to stay over before the hunt, please contact Mandy Crooks or

For any new potential hunters, the morning out is really fun and sociable and the ‘hunt’ is following
a scent of canned pilchards.  All you need to bring is collar & lead, water for your dog and proof
that your vaccinations are up to date.  There has been a serious outbreak of rabies in KZN so
make sure your dogs shots are up to date.

The Beagles in South Africa Facebook page is
really an excellent forum to meet other Beagle owners and share photos and info about the breed and
their really cute but eccentric behaviour.  Karen has also set up a KZN Beagles Facebook
page and all KZN Beagle events are on the page

There are only three more hunts left for the season and our end of season prize giving function will
be a lunch and Beagle treasure hunt at Forest House on Sat 13 Oct.
